Think you might like to become a Black Rock City Ranger?
The training schedule is posted. rangers.burningman.com/calendar.shtml
Prerequisite: Must have attended Burning Man as a participant a year before becoming a Ranger, Participant First-Ranger Second.
Rangers are not cops and cop mentality is not what they are looking for.
Rangers are non-confrontational mediators, warm and fuzzy not enforcer types.
If you like telling people what to do don't bother.
If you enjoy helping people come to their right decision come to a training.
This is not an official post.

If you DO like telling people what to do, consider joining Gate and Perimeter.
We like to hunt.
We like to search.
We like to rip paper and keep part.
We like to drive fast.
At night, too.
This is also not an official post.
and we're okay with that. -

Sat, May 10, 2008 - 10:41 AMchicks dig Rangers.... and Gate and Perimiter! (they dig being them too)
I feel so naughty being outside the trash fence on Perimiter, looking for naughties...
Joining one of these groups will expand your close contact with great people while you do some interesting and fun stuff for yourself and others. If you are bemoaning another solo flight thru BRC, any of these groups will surround you with like minded lovelies. It was the best decision i made in 05!

Re: Become a Black Rock City Ranger
Sat, May 10, 2008 - 9:36 PMAnd as an alternative there is always volenteering to work with the bad girls and boys of DPW.....
But if you were never a Girl Scout, Campfire Girl, Boy Scout, or frickin' elementary school Hall Monitor and you're more the friendly helpful sort consider becoming a BRC Greeter! It's way more fun than chasing hippies out on the perimeter.
You get to actually give hugs, kisses, and collect neat schwag. If you're one of those types who need to break out of your shell and make real contact with real people, then you NEED to Greet! Real HUMAN contact! Plus, Greeters hotties don't have to wear boring khaki, and greeters frequently have hot kinky sex with each other.

Customized volunteering positions?
Wed, May 14, 2008 - 7:42 AMI've thought of officially volunteering for something at BRC, but I guess I'm a bit worried about the amount of time required. So much of my burn experience is that of a loner, but parts of me would like to branch out and change that, although I still need a lot of loner time (not counting sleep!) And, I don't wear a watch at BRC because I really don't want to, so I'm worried I'd oversleep or otherwise become distracted from assigned duties.
And, I have to wear a uniform at work in the default world, so I really (really!) refuse to do so at home!
One girlfriend has signed up to be a greeter; and she's even a virgin!
Another friend is volunteering time in the mental health counseling arena......
For those of you lovelies who share so generously with the rest of us, what types of volunteer positions would work for someone like me?
(Be nice!) -

Re: Customized volunteering positions?
Wed, May 14, 2008 - 8:52 AMUmmmmmm ....... I'd make sure you were awake in time to go on shift :-).
I spend a lot of alone time at BM as well. I think that they ask for three shifts as Ranger, not a huge commitment. You'd make a very cute Ranger :-)

Re: Customized volunteering positions?
Sat, May 17, 2008 - 9:40 PMActually in the '08 Ranger Handbook, it does not say there is a minimum requirement for number of shifts.
It *does* ask every ranger to work a shift on Saturday, but doesn't actually require that, either.
(Even in '07 there wasn't a minimum (although they required Sat), but it took 3 shifts to earn a comp ticket. That 3/comp ticket is gone now, too.)

And our cookies are better, too.

Re: Customized volunteering positions?
Wed, May 14, 2008 - 10:10 PMSelling ice!
I thought about doing this last year but didn't want to commit to a time beforehand. I may do it this year, either arranged time or asking the first time I go there if they need anyone, and when. -
